Biography
If Black Sabbath were reborn as an indus band, they’d probably sound a lot like Godflesh. Not surprisingly, the two bands come from the same breeding ground: industrial Birmingham, where Godflesh was formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick and G.C. Green.
Blending influences from electro to dub, Godflesh’s innovative music is widely regarded as a founding influence of industrial and post-metal music.
Throughout the 90s, Godflesh released a series of landmark albums and EPs: “ Songs of Love and Hate ”, “ Pure ”, “ Us and Them”… A decade that culminated in the sublime “ Hymns ” in 2001.
Godflesh broke up shortly after its seventh album, which brought a new emotion to the band and ended with the premonitory “ Jesu ”.
From Rammstein and Isis to Fear Factory, Blut Aus Nord and Meshuggah, Godflesh left an indelible imprint on a whole generation of musicians, and the band’s sound remained as relevant as ever when it reformed in 2009 around Justin K. Broadrick and Ben C.G. Green. The band then embarked on a series of triumphant concerts, notably at Hellfest 2010 and Roadburn 2011, reaffirming the expertise of the Justin K. Broadrick/Ben C. G. Green pair. Broadrick/Ben C.G. Green and Godflesh’s impact on the heavy music scene.
In 2014 the duo returned with a new album “A World Lit Only By Fire”, thirteen years after their last record, still suffocating and black with despair, their know-how intact in a new era.
Their latest album, “Post Self”, was released in 2017.
